Foresight Report

At Superflux*, I participated in a series of creatively unbound speculative/futures design projects. I collaborated with foresight and ethnographic researchers, developed and facilitated workshops, conducted visual and material research, and engaged in conceptual ideation, storytelling, and world mapping.

The primary project I focused on was 'The Intersection,' commissioned by the Omidyar Network and produced by Superflux. This project aimed to explore, reveal, and challenge the themes of extraction and exploitation within the technosphere by examining present-day ambient technologies such as ingestibles, wearables, embeddables, the Internet of Things (IoT), 5G, smart cities, and facial recognition, all within the context of their impact on our collective futures.

Within 'The Intersection,' my efforts were concentrated on the research stages, laying the groundwork for mapping the preferable future of the final speculative narrative. Collaboratively, I worked on communication, visualisation, conceptualisation, and the collation of the foresight report. I mapped and organised found information, filled in research gaps, opened new directories, and designed exercises for the sense-making process. Additionally, I designed the layout and visuals of the report. The sense-making process was critical to the journey of this project, enabling the team to surface unexpected connections and interdependencies, and to question earlier biases and assumptions.

*Superflux Studio is known for its futures practices as well as pioneering a more-than-human approach and planetary design.
